To draw or not draw

Is it terrible I wish I knew how to draw, like really create draw not use software to do all the heavy lifting, I appreciate the shadowing, texturing, and anatomy. Scale, shape and symmetry yet it just seems to be an impossible skill to learn, I have these images and sounds in my head, with few means of giving them tangible shape. I find dimensionality so amazing, and the more I do at work makes me want to draw even more, yet my niece draws so much better than I could, what do you do? After talking to a friend I was told I do draw with words and letters as my shapes and colors, am I just selfish that just doesn't cut it? And practice practice practice has failed failed failed, now what?
