Lindenburg American hero or nazi?

This came as a new one for me, I've grown up hearing about the spirit of saint Louise, his transatlantic flight, Ect. Even the missing kid shows up occasionally, what I've never been taught that he was into eugenics, and had nearly moved to naziberlin believing in the weak should've food for the strong. It was interesting seeing his glass heart, but realizing he had used his fame to keep America out of world war 2 believing in the nazi übermensch was never taught in school. Why do we hide the dark secrets about our heroes, and only focus on the good, what do we learn? It's sad to see it took his firsthand eye witness of post nazi Germany, to understand the terrible price paid by that fashion of thinking, it seems to prove power corrupts, because in the beggining as long as he was classed as the strong and intelligent he was good with eugenics. Now the catch is is thier anything wrong with improving the human body? As long as we still believe in equality, understanding that a persons gifts are different not making them better, am I better than the person who can speak multiple languages, or play music, no, there not better than me either, my skills are elsewhere, and the idea that those physically challenged are less, is insane, I'm disabled, and am insufferably bright, Stephen hawking is very bright, how would he be treated in a eugenics world?
