Government control of the Internet

For now I'm going to just leave you with a question, and I will try to add my thoughts as we go, the Internet, how much control and access to the Internet should the government have. It has nothing to do with them, belongs to the people, and yet they presume it belongs to them, that our information is theirs to use as they choose. Corparations use this technology to spy on us, using our data and location to send specilised ads singled out to us, do using these social media's give them the right to use our friends and families as commodities, I'm not a corporate shill offering up the people I care about, because the government and corporations believe something belongs to them. So I ask you, think about the Internet and what free information, at least knowledge used to be free, that's what made the printing press the most important invention in history, it made education possible for the masses, striping the feudal lords of thier power, and now the Internet, the modern printing press not only offers knowledge and education to everyone, but freedom for the masses, what will the modern feudal lords think about that? How long until they realize this isn't pandoras box, but the genii with three wishes, with instant knowledge and communication, the Internet is pure power for everyone, with true equality, as we've seen a country will not hesitate to attempt to usurp that power if they can, if we're not ready for this, be prepared.
